America Ranked
Consumer Privacy and Choice

What we do

America Ranked is a service offered to consumers interested in popular vacation spots, ideas for travel, etc. and organizations that want to connect with those consumers. We help direct consumers to curated media experiences that we believe will be of interest to them, and we help our clients identify consumers who might be interested in their product, service or cause or ways of enhancing their product, service or cause. In other words, we create connections. To do this, we study consumer characteristics and then make predictions about what it is that individuals are likely to be interested in. We match those interests against the goals of our clients to find the best fit. Sometimes our research is intended to help our clients engage with new donors, subscribers or customers, other times it is intended to find new ways to engage with and serve existing donors, subscribers or customers. But whether they are our clients, the American consumer, or others, we care about people.

What this notice covers

This privacy notice applies to our business practices and information received from consumers and donors through the America Ranked service and website. Our other websites and lines of business may have different privacy practices, which are described in privacy notices for these websites. By providing America Ranked with your information you agree to the processing and use of your information described in this notice as it may be updated from time to time.

Consumer information and how we use it

When you respond to a marketing offer, newsletter or other communication sent through America Ranked, you may submit your information to America Ranked. This information may include a variety of personal and non-personal information such as your name, physical address, email address, occupation, age, gender, background, education or occupation and other personal or demographic information. It may also include information on your opinions and interests, items you purchase or for which you subscribe or causes you support (for example, through survey responses). Please also see below under "Cookies and other collection technologies" for a description of information we may collect information from you through email, web or app-based interactions with you.

Please note, our products and services are designed only for individuals 18 and older who reside in the United States. We do not knowingly collect information about consumers in other locations or about children, and do not permit other parties to send it to us. We also don't knowingly collect information historically considered to be highly sensitive in the United States such as credit card or bank account numbers, Social Security Numbers or other government-issued identifiers or HIPAA data or other information specifying a consumer's medical conditions. We prohibit other parties from sending us this type of data, and you must not submit any of this type of information through our website or service.

We use your information, including your personal information for several purposes. We use your information to provide you with curated content we believe may interest you. We may combine the information you submit to us with information we have received from other sources and third parties as part of our other lines of business to include you in future offers from us or from our clients or to provide products and services to our clients. We don't work with clients whose offer we consider pornographic or harmful to families. If you submit your privacy choices to us (such as opting out of certain emails), we use that information to validate and give effect to your opt out. Offers from our clients through America Ranked are subject to this privacy notice. For more information on the privacy practices relating to our other lines of business, please visit the privacy policy at our corporate website at wiland.com and our Privacy Choices page located at that site. Any information we share with our clients is subject to their separate privacy practices.

We share your information with our clients on whose behalf we contact you by email and sometimes with other clients and partners whose offers may interest you. We also provide the information to trusted partners who work with us to help provide our products and services or who help us develop, improve or enhance our products and services. We may also share your information with our trusted partners to give effect to your opt out choices.

We may use your information to respond to subpoenas, court orders, or legal process, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims. We may also use your information to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of our or our clients' or third party partners' user agreements, or as otherwise required by law.

We may transfer information about you if we are acquired by or merged with another company.

Categories of personal information collected and shared in the past 12 months

Please see the table referenced in our Privacy Choices page for a complete list of the following with respect to the categories of personal information that we have collected in the past 12 months for use in our products and services, including in connection with America Ranked:

Third party sites and services

There may be places on our website or in messages we transmit where you may click on a link to access other websites that do not operate under this privacy notice. For example, in connection with products, services or subscriptions you select, you may be taken to a website that we do not control. If you are taken to a website not found here at America Ranked, one of our other consumer interest brand websites (which would also references our corporate website) or our corporate website listed above, you are likely at a website not controlled by us. These third-party websites may independently solicit and collect information, including personal information, from you and, in some instances, provide us with information about your activities on those websites. We recommend that you consult the privacy statements of all third-party websites you visit by clicking on the "privacy" link typically located at the bottom of the webpage you are visiting. We are not responsible for and do not endorse the content of any third party website or service.

Cookies and other collection technologies

We may automatically collect information from your browser or device when you visit our website such as your IP address, device ID, your browser type and language, access times, and the content of any undeleted cookies that your browser previously accepted from us.

When you visit our website, we may assign your device one or more cookies to facilitate access to our site. Through the use of a cookie, we also may automatically collect information about your online activity on our site, such as the web pages you visit, the time and date of your visits, the links you click, and the information you submit to our site. Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies. If you choose to decline cookies, it could affect current or future ability to use certain features of our site. The information we obtain in this manner enables us to customize the services we offer our website visitors, to deliver targeted advertisements across the internet and to measure the overall effectiveness of our services and our online advertising, content, programming or other activities.

We or third parties may use various technologies, such as web beacons and other similar technologies, to track your use of our site or your interaction with email messages we send and to share with one-another non-personally identifiable versions of user information collected at the site or through our email messages. We may use that information to link to and issue non-personally identifiable cookies containing demographic or intent-based data for online behavioral advertising purposes. From our standpoint, these cookies do not contain personally identifiable information, but under some state laws, such as California, some information may be considered "personal information."

We may share non-personally identifiable information we collect under any of the circumstances described above. We may combine non-personally identifiable information we collect with additional non-personally identifiable information collected from other sources. We also may share aggregated, non-personally identifiable information, or personal information in hashed, non-human readable form, with third parties, including advisors, advertisers and investors, for the purpose of conducting general business analysis or other business purposes. For example, we may engage a data provider who may collect web log data from you (including IP address and information about your browser or operating system), or place or recognize a unique cookie on your browser to enable you to receive customized ads or content. The cookies may reflect de-identified demographic or other data linked to data you voluntarily have submitted to us (such as your email address), that we may share with a data provider solely in hashed, non-human readable form. From our standpoint, this information is not tied to you on an identified basis, but under some state laws, such as California, some of this information may be considered "personal information."

Information security

We work with a lot of data, so it's fair to be interested in how we protect it. We have implemented technical, administrative, personnel, and physical measures to safeguard the security of all of the information in our custody. Please see our Privacy Choices page for more information. When we transfer your information to our third party partners that help us deliver our services, we require them to implement reasonable security standards. Any information we share with our other partners or clients is subject to their separate data protection policies.

Privacy choices and your California privacy rights

We give U.S. consumers several privacy choices, as described in our Privacy Choices page. Our Privacy Choices page contains information on how to submit each of these choices. It also includes information about how we comply with California's "Shine the Light" law and other information about legally required notifications, including rights that residents of California (and potentially other states) have regarding how we use their personal data.

If you simply wish to opt out of email communications sent through America Ranked from the client on whose behalf we sent you email, you can use the link contained in the email that is designated as the method of unsubscribing from emails from the sending email address. You may also opt out of all emails through the America Ranked service by either following the link in the email that is designated as an unsubscribe link for the service as a whole, if available, or by filling out the form here.

Although most web browsers enable users to indicate a preference regarding use of cookies to track online activity, we do not believe there is currently a consensus on what these preferences mean. Consequently we do not respond to these browser preferences and instead utilize the industry standard opt-outs and other methods described above for consumer choice.

Changes

We will occasionally update this privacy notice. When we post changes to this privacy notice, we will revise the 'last updated' date at the top of this notice. We recommend that you check our website from time to time to inform yourself of any changes in this notice or any of our other policies.

No rights of third parties
